The Oneida County Sewer District (OCSD) is administered through the Oneida County Department of Water Quality and Water Pollution Control (WQ&WPC), which is responsible for the operation and management of OCSD facilities and personnel. There are 15 municipalities plus the County of Oneida in the District, which services a population of approximately 110,000 and covers an area of approximately 170 square miles. District facilities include 45 miles of interceptor sewers, the Sauquoit Creek and Barnes Avenue Pumping Stations, and the WPCP.

In 2007, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and Oneida County, NY (County) entered a Consent Order (No. R620060823-67) to address sanitary sewer overflows (SSO) at the Sauquoit Creek Pump Station (SCPS) that were impacting the Mohawk River. Under the leadership of Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr., the Consent Order was closed in December 2023 as a result of significant investments and dedicated repair and rehabilitation work led by the Oneida County Sewer District.

In the course of the past decade, the County has engaged in collection system rehabilitation and construction projects for water pollution control plant (WPCP) improvements. These upgrades have resulted in an increase in plant capacity from 55 million gallons per day (mgd) to 111 mgd, ensuring a more resilient wastewater system and a cleaner environment for property owners and residents in the Oneida County Sewer District’s 15 member municipalities.

The Oneida County Department of Water Quality and Water Pollution Control (WQ&WPC) is responsible for administering the operations of the OCSD.
