Our History
Progress!
Municipalities across the nation are facing similar challenges with their sewer systems. Fortunately, Oneida County has already made significant investments to reduce the potential for overflows and bring our treatment facilities up to date with modern equipment and technologies.
Through Oneida County funding and the combined efforts of OCSD, towns, and villages in the District, major investments in repairs and improvements have been made to sewer pipes, manholes, and other underground sewer infrastructure. Substantial upgrades also have been made to our Water Pollution Control Plant (WPCP) and the Sauquoit Creek Pumping Station (SCPS). You may already have seen the substantial work that was done in some neighborhoods, such as sewer lining and manhole repairs. Other projects are less visible, such as flow monitors that allow the sewer flows to be measured at various points, but are providing valuable data that is helping identify where the most serious problems may lie.
Equally important is the commitment to identify and address system issues that still exist, and the ongoing efforts of the Capacity Management, Operation, and Maintenance (CMOM) program to ensure a safe, reliable system today and for future generations.
All of these efforts are having a positive ripple effect, engaging residents, businesses, and municipalities who rely on the system to be part of the solution.
Now we need to keep the ripple effect going, with both the district municipalities and property owners helping to maintain and further improve the system.
